Cabe Toyota Achieves LEED certification in Long Beach, Calif.

Local automotive dealership earns LEED Gold, making it Toyota's 45th LEED-certified dealership in the country

LONG BEACH, Calif., May 1, 2018 - Longtime Toyota dealership Cabe Toyota in Long Beach, Calif. is Toyota's latest LEED-certified dealership, achieving LEED Gold for the renovation and 12,000 sq. ft. expansion of its parts & service building.   

LEED certification is earned by meeting a set of standards in the areas of sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality set by the U.S. Green Building Council. The dealership, which first opened in 1966, sought to maintain the original charm of the historical building throughout the five-year remodeling process.  Upon completion, the building's character remained intact and infrastructural changes resulted in the achievement of LEED Gold. The newly expanded Sales building also achieved LEED Silver, making it the fourth LEED-certified Toyota dealership building in Southern California.

Cabe Toyota enlisted Zinner Consultants, Inc. to assist with transforming the building into a more sustainable space. Repairs to the existing building began in 2012, including installation of more energy-efficient lighting, an advanced plumbing system designed to use less water and several industrial cooling fans to help lower electricity usage. The dealership also invested in the construction of a new solar-powered parts & services warehouse, reusing and recycling materials throughout.

With more than 52 years in operation, Cabe Toyota is one of the oldest businesses in Long Beach. The city proactively supports environmentally conscious best practices and aims to have at least 5 million sq. ft. of privately developed LEED-certified green buildings by 2020, according to the Long Beach Office of Sustainability's Sustainable City Action Plan.

Toyota and Lexus dealers continue to lead the industry with more LEED-certified dealership facilities in the United States than any other auto manufacturer with 53 dealerships and counting, including 45 Toyota dealerships and 8 Lexus dealerships.  This initiative supports Toyota's Environmental Challenge 2050 that seeks to go beyond minimizing negative impacts and create a net positive impact on the environment.
